Literature Text
Two lonely people drift in the dark
Bittersweet from a common spark
What could be, but what is not
Unable to engage, to touch
Only to stare through the glass at the sweet within
A hint of frosty glass the only sign they were ever close
Walking the precipice afraid to jump
Afraid to fail.
Afraid to succeed.
Loneliness is the strongest bond
Easy to make, hard to disown
Bonds held in place by fear
Bonds held in place by will
Will to change, just one step
Will to freeze, prisoner of risk
Loneliness so profound it surrounds in a shell
Encased in a crystalline shell
Longing for the seen, perceived closeness
The advertised idyll
Captured for amusement and envy
That one moment shared
A rusty knife turning, turning in an ephemeral wound.
Loneliness is safe though.
Untouched by the pains of life
Yet tears of regret warm me still
Gently comforting in its secure embrace.
Alone. Secure. Lonely. Safe.
