The little green ship did slip away from its moorings
Star destroyers bragged of great galactic adventure
So the little green ship gave its captain the slip
It zoomed with joyous abandon, flipping and whirling, turning and twirling
It passed by moon and planets it had never hoped to touch
It performed forbidden manoeuvres which would damage its passengers shells
Spiralling and tumbling in and out of a gravity well
Orbiting a little green asteroid the colour of its hull
Looking much like an ion circling an attractive electron
So it travelled further but stopped to say hello
To the deep space refueller, for a rest and a drink and a story though
The little green ship spoke to a poet in the shape of a dull brown cargo
The cargo waxed lyrical as cargos are prone to do
For what can you to do when are unwieldy and slow
Cargo spoke of nebulas blooming 12 light years away
And there in the refueller juice bar and idea did grow
A beautiful nebula garden and adventure or at least a show
With directions in its nav computer
The little green ship set off
Past the twin binary pulsar though the ship did not get too close
Through a small asteroid belt where it almost resisted a desire to shoot
Around a giant quasar and across a gaseous cloud
It even slip-streamed behind a comet which it was never allowed
Finally the little green ship came to rest in Aurora’s space garden at last
And there it saw what it came for
The nebulas blooming and cavorting and swooning
A ballet of stars and cosmic matter performing
An intricate timeless dance of the fractal
Colour and light and dark and reflection the little green ship wished
The captain could see this perfection
And so with a sigh, it dipped its wings side to side
And started its journey for home
